Lobos Receive Votes in USA Today Coaches Top 25 Poll (View Poll)

........................................................................................................................................................................................

USA Today released its preseason coaches Top 25 poll on Wednesday with the University of New Mexico receiving 10 points, placing them seven spots outside the rankings (No. 32 if you prefer).

The Lobos starting the year in the coaches poll at the No. 32 spot (technically a team is only considered ranked if in the Top 25, otherwise the team is categorized in the “others receiving votes” category) is impressive for a squad many preseason publications seem to suggest will be hit especially hard by the loss of Drew Gordon.

Mountain West foes UNLV (No. 19) and San Diego State (No. 20) were the two league teams that cracked the Top 25 while Colorado State received 4 points, which would put them at No. 40. Non-conference opponents St. Louis (58 points) and Cincinnati (33) each received more points than UNM but just missed out on the Top 25.

The league’s lone voter in this year’s USA Today Coaches poll is San Diego State’s Steve Fisher.

The Associated Press Top 25 Poll, of which I will be a voter, is scheduled to release its preseason rankings on Oct. 26.
