Lobos Receive Votes in Preseason AP Top 25 (View Poll)

........................................................................................................................................................................................

The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team received nine points in the 2012-13 Associated Press preseason Top 25 men’s basketball poll released Friday morning.

That placed UNM 13 spots out of the rankings (tied with Georgetown’s nine points for the 38th spot if the poll actually went beyond 25 spots).

The Indiana Hoosiers are atop the poll, receiving 43 first place votes from the voting panel of 65. I am one of those voters this season. To see my preseason ballot, CLICK HERE.

Two Mountain West teams — UNLV (No. 18) and San Diego State (No. 20) — were ranked in the AP poll as they were earlier this month in the preseason USA Today coaches preseason poll. UNM received 10 points in the coaches poll.

UNM opponent Cincinnati (Dec. 27 in Cincinnati) was ranked No. 24 in the poll while opponents St. Louis (46 points), Davidson (5 points), Valparaiso (3 points) and Colorado State (1 point) all joined UNM in the “others receiving votes” category.

Here is the AP Top 25 preseason poll with first place voted in parenthesis and total points at right:
