ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Dec. 7 fight between Erislandy Lara and Las Cruces’ Austin Trout, on the Zab Judah- Paulie Malignaggi undercard in Brooklyn, N.Y., is for those who truly appreciate The Sweet Science.
This won’t be Micky Ward-Arturo Gatti IV, or anything close. But it will match two of the sport’s finest boxers. And if you don’t like the matchup, you may like fighting — but you don’t like boxing.
The confirmation of Trout-Lara also means Trout’s legal squabble with former promoter Greg Cohen is settled. Trout had sued Cohen, saying he interfered with attempts to get the Las Cruces fighter a spot on the recent Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Canelo Alvarez card. Trout’s trainer, Las Cruces’ Louie Burke, had said his fighter’s career would be on hold until the dispute with Cohen could be resolved.
