Five Star Burgers is making it a double in Albuquerque.

A second Duke City location of the small burger chain will open next year along Central Avenue between Old Town and Downtown, according to owner Bob Gontram.

It will be part of Jay Rembe’s new Country Club Plaza development — a project you can read more about in Monday’s Journal.

Gontram said he expects the 2,800-square-foot Five Star restaurant to open in May.

Founded in 2008 in Taos, the gourmet burger chain came to Albuquerque in 2010 with a location at 5901 Wyoming NE.

There are currently three Five Star restaurants in New Mexico, plus locations in Colorado and Missouri.

Gontram said his son owns the St. Louis location, and the two intend to continue expanding the brand in the Midwest.
