ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Bernalillo County commissioners nominated retired Santa Fe resident Ann Jenkins, a Democrat, late Tuesday to fill the vacancy in state House District 50.
The commission voted 3-2 along party-lines to send Jenkins’ nomination to the Gov. Susana Martinez, who will pick the new representative from among the nominees from four counties.
The District 50 seat is vacant because of the death of Rep. Stephen Easley, a Democrat from Eldorado in Santa Fe County.
The district covers parts of Santa Fe, Bernalillo, Torrance and Valencia counties. The county commission from each county is required to submit a nominee.
Valencia County, for example, has already nominated Republican Vickie Perea, a former Albuquerque city councilor
Perea had support Tuesday from Bernalillo County commissioners Wayne Johnson and Lonnie Talbert, both Republicans. But Democrats Maggie Hart Stebbins, Debbie O’Malley and Art De La Cruz supported Jenkins.
