ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Albuquerque police have identified the man in a wheelchair hit and killed on Wednesday night as 70-year-old Thomas Quesada-Cuevas.
Based on the police investigation, a motorized wheelchair being driven by Quesada-Cuevas was traveling southwest on the south side of the Zuni and Alvarado intersection, according to a statement issued by APD spokesman Officer Simon Drobik.
A vehicle driven by George Valliant was going east on Zuni and collided with Quesada-Cuevas, police said.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, police said.
10:22 p.m. — A man riding in a wheelchair is dead after he was struck by a car traveling east on Zuni Road in southeast Albuquerque Wednesday night, police said.
APD spokesman Elder Guevara said the man died at the hospital, and couldn’t comment on whether the driver was in custody due to an ongoing investigation.
The crash happened around 8:45 p.m.
Zuni at Alvarado is blocked off to through traffic, and Guevara said it will probably be closed for at least another three hours.
