Española man killed, State Police agent injured in shooting

SANTA FE, N.M. — Rogelio Cisneros-Chavez, 22, killed in a shooting involving State Police agents.

Rogelio Cisneros-Chavez, 22, of Española, was killed Thursday night and an unnamed State Police agent was injured during a shooting at the Las Lomas Apartments, according to a State Police statement.

Agents with the State Police Investigations Bureau were looking for Cisneros-Chavez, who was a suspect in a $7,600 larceny case and had a warrant out for his arrest.

They found Cisneros-Chavez in apartment 323 just before 9 p.m. Multiple gunshots were fired. Cisneros-Chavez received fatal gunshot wounds and died of his injuries in the apartment. A State Police officer was taken to a hospital after receiving a gunshot wound. He was in stable condition, coherent and talking following the shooting.

The case is under investigation by the State Police.
