SEEMS LIKE a stretch to equate yoga with religion.
But if Rep. Alonzo Baldonado, R-Los Lunas, is concerned that yoga, masquerading as stretching exercises in an elementary school PE class, violates the separation between church and state, will he also speak out against schoolchildren reciting the Pledge of Allegiance (“One nation, under God”)?
And will he speak out against faith-based student groups using school facilities? Or is Baldonado only concerned about Eastern religions having a presence in the public schools?
The smartest thing Baldonado can do is sign up for a couple of yoga classes. As a member of the House Education Committee, he might learn something.
