Workers on Monday will open a new loop road for motorists traveling west on Paseo who want to go south on Interstate 25.
Drivers will need to get in the far-right lane of westbound Paseo to access the loop road, which will merge into southbound I-25, said Phil Gallegos, spokesman for the Department of Transportation.
Previously, those westbound Paseo motorists needed to get in the far left lanes so they could turn left onto the southbound access road at a signaled intersection.
A single left-turn lane will remain in place for westbound Paseo motorists who want to turn south on the access road, Gallegos said.
The one-lane loop road, which will have a speed limit of 15 mph, will offer the advantage that westbound Paseo drivers no longer will need to stop at a signaled intersection to access southbound I-25.
The loop road will be a feature in the completed Paseo/I-25 interchange.
To prepare the new ramp, workers will close one lane in each direction on eastbound and westbound Paseo Del Norte starting at 2 p.m. Sunday.
