NM Lottery Board hires interim CEO

........................................................................................................................................................................................

The New Mexico Lottery Board hired an interim chief executive officer during a special meeting Wednesday to replace longtime CEO Tom E. Romero, who was fired last month from his $165,000-a-year job for unspecified reasons.

David M. Barden, a former vice president of the Arkansas Lottery, will be the interim CEO, New Mexico Lottery spokeswoman Linda Hamlin said.

Barden, who lives in South Carolina, helped launch both the Arkansas and South Carolina lotteries, Hamlin said.

His salary was not immediately available.

Hamlin said the seven-member, governor-appointed lottery board will begin advertising for a permanent CEO nationwide next week, with the application period ending Jan. 15.
