Celebrating another anniversary means creating a new limited edition craft beer at La Cumbre Brewing Company.

La Cumbre is celebrating its three-year anniversary and on Tuesday will be offering its new Belgian-Style Quad. The brewing company will have 1,750 bottles available with 1,000 of those reserved for La Cumbre Mug Club members. The bottles of the Belgian-Style Quad will be available for purchase in La Cumbre’s tap room.

La Cumbre President Jeffrey Erway wanted to make a special beer for his patrons in celebration of the brewing company’s anniversary. He said he has tasted a number of different beers over the years and has always enjoyed Belgian-Style Quad beer.

“I’ve been to Belgium and usually the last beer at the end of the night is a Trappist-style quad,” Erway said. “It’s incredibly complex and candylike without being sweet.”

The fondness of this style of beer led Erway to make La Cumbre’s own. The brewery’s Belgian-Style Quad uses cocoa in its recipe.

“It’s aromatic without dominating the characteristic of the beer,” Erway explained.

La Cumbre’s robust Belgian-Style Quad was brewed in late August. It fermented about a week and a half and was bottled in late November.

“You have to let it age,” Erway said. “When it’s that high in alcohol, you want the flavors to meld. If you don’t give it time to mellow, it tastes boozy.”

Rush over to La Cumbre to get your hands on a bottled Belgian-Style Quad and stick around for the anniversary party on Tuesday. The all-day event will feature La Cumbre’s second anniversary beer, a Russian Imperial Stout made with Kopi Luwak coffee, one of the most expensive coffees in the world.
