New Mexico Drought Conditions Forecast to Improve

Southeast New Mexico’s dry conditions should improve in the next few months, according to a federal forecast out today.

 

A large section of the state’s southeast corner is currently in moderate to severe drought, but the latest forecast map from the federal Climate Prediction Center shows odds of significant improvement:

The above map is an outlook for now through September. Things look extremely bad in California and Texas, which are already particularly hard hit. In New Mexico, despite a cool and somewhat wet spell since late May, 62 percent of the state remains abnormally dry, according to the National Drought Mitigation Center at the University of Nebraska:
