Lobo basketball close but still unranked (view updated polls)

A road win at New Mexico State and a home win over previously undefeated Cincinnati weren’t enough for the New Mexico Lobos to break back into the Associated Press or USA Today Coaches Top 25 polls on Monday morning.

In fact, they lost points in both polls, which they’ve done in each poll since their Nov. 22 loss to UMass, a team ranked in each poll. UNM has gone 4-0 since that loss.

UNM received 62 points in the AP Top 25 poll on Monday, leaving them two spots out of the rankings and 28 points in the coaches poll, four spots from the Top 25.

Despite their two wins, UNM lost nine points in the AP poll this week (from 71 points last week to 62) and eight points (from 36 last week to 28) in the coaches poll.

Mountain West foe San Diego State remains the only league team in the rankings, checking in at No. 25 in the AP poll and No. 24 in the coaches poll.
