Governor to include Rio Rancho water projects in funding proposal

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Governor Susana Martinez will include two of Rio Rancho’s high priority projects in her proposal to the Legislature in the upcoming session.

The governor’s staff informed City Manager Keith Riesberg on Wednesday that a $1.46 million project to upgrade failing waterlines and a $3.89 million project to drill replacement wells will be among projects included when Martinez asks the Legislature to direct 60 percent of available capital outlay funds to state water needs.

The well would make up for production capacity lost following the failure of city wells 4 and 5 a few years ago, Riesberg said in an email to city councilors.

The two projects were among those on the Rio Rancho governing body’s priority list for capital outlay funds.
