ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Sandoval County Clerk Eileen Garbagni said New Mexico Supreme Court’s ruling on Thursday in allowing same-gender couples to marry cleared the way for her to issue marriage licenses.
“We’re ready to go,” said Garbagni, who previously said she would not issue licenses to same-sex couples until she was directed to by a court.
“I never really had an issue with it. I was just not going to do it until the courts ruled on it; and the decision was made this morning and that’s what we’re going to do,” Garbagni said.
Garbagni said she has licenses with “spouse” and “spouse” instead of “bride” and “groom” printed and will be ready to issue them after 9 a.m. on Friday.
