ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Future New Mexico Lobo Bryce Alford, the son of UNM coach Steve Alford, scored 45 points Friday night to lead his La Cueva Bears past Albuquerque Academy 70-65.

Alford’s 45 points, which included seven 3-pointers, gives him 2,125 for his high school career, moving him into No. 7 on the state’s all-time high school scoring list. The player he passed for No. 7 is his future UNM teammate Alex Kirk, the 7-foot center who scored 2,107 points in four seasons with the Los Alamos Hilltoppers.

Alford is already the state’s Class 5A all-time scoring leader and remains 391 points behind New Mexico’s all-time scoring leader Isaac Bejarano who scored 2,516 career points at Hagerman.

Alford has six regular season games remaining and likely a minimum of two postseason games (at least one district tournament game and at least one state tournament game) remaining.
