State Police tout New Year’s Eve success

........................................................................................................................................................................................

New Mexico State Police are calling their saturation patrol of Bernalillo County last night a success, saying that more than 60 citations were issued and seven DWI offenders arrested.

In addition, police made five misdemeanor arrests and three felony arrests, including one traffic stop that yielded over two ounces of black tar heroin, crack cocaine, methamphetamine and a stolen firearm.

“And maybe most importantly, (officers) did not have to respond to one crash in which innocent people were injured or killed,” a State Police spokesman said in a news release. “The direct result of this kind of proactive aggressive enforcement of the laws of New Mexico by numerous officers working together is that the New Year’s Eve Holiday was a safe one.”

Almost 20 additional officers patrolled Bernalillo County during last night’s New Year’s celebrations.
