Ousted Sante Fe Community College president contests dismissal

........................................................................................................................................................................................

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — The ousted president of Sante Fe Community College is citing a state law providing protections for whistleblowers as she contests her firing.

Lawyers for Ana “Cha” Guzman say the college board fired her in retaliation after she wrote a letter to the state auditor in October to request an investigation into the college’s finances.

The college board fired Guzman last month, saying it was invoking a contract provision that allows dismissal for “just cause.”

Guzman has filed a request for arbitration to get her job back plus back pay, and the Santa Fe New Mexican reports that one of her lawyers says Guzman plans to file a lawsuit in state District Court under the Whistleblower Protection Act.
