ABQ author to sign novel for youths

Albuquerque author Lois Ruby, the author of 17 books for middle-graders and teens, will sign her novel “The Secret of Laurel Oaks” from 4-6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10 at Title Wave Books, 2318 Wisconsin NE.

The novel slides from the present to the 1840s and back. In today’s world, Albuquerque sister and brother, Lila and Gabe, stay at a genuinely haunted plantation in Louisiana.

AT ALAMOSA BOOKS READING ROOM: Laurie Halse Anderson, a writer for young adults, will sign her book “The Impossible Knife of Memory” at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10 at Alamosa Books Reading Room at the northwest corner of Paseo del Norte and Ventura NE. The book centers around high school senior Hayley, whose single father struggled to escape the demons that have tortured him since his return from the Iraq War.

AT HASTINGS: Gene Lessard will sign his book “Grandfather’s Tale: The Story of Human Evolution and Dispersal” at Hastings, 6001 Lomas NE, from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10 and from 6-9 p.m. Jan. 17 at Hastings, 4313 Wyoming NE.

The book discusses topics such as where we came from, who are our ancestors and how did we become the only animal capable of creating art, literature, music, science, philosophy, religion and sports.

LIBRARY TALK: Kate Kuligowski will visit Esther Bone Memorial Library at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9 to discuss her book “Our Most Treasured Tails.”

It is a compilation of 60 fulfilling years in the world of dog rescue in New Mexico.

She will have copies of her book for purchase and signing following the presentation.
