Mati leaving Coronado for ABQ Uptown

........................................................................................................................................................................................

uptownA longtime Coronado Center tenant is trading the state’s largest mall for nearby ABQ Uptown.

Mati Jewelers expects to relocate to the open-air shopping center this spring, according to Mati Vice President Nick Eleftheriou.

The locally owned jewelry store had maintained a space in Coronado for about 25 years but had seen business in that location fall off, Eleftheriou said.

Mati also has stores in Old Town, Cottonwood Mall and in Santa Fe.

“The traffic in Coronado and the sales in Coronado have really been dropping for the past several years, and many of our clients (were asking) us why we aren’t over in Uptown,” Eleftheriou told the Journal Monday. “When our lease ran out this year, I decided to make a move.”

Mati is leaving a 2,200-square-foot Coronado location for 1,200 square feet at Uptown. It will take over the former site of HOT. Eleftheriou said the move should happen by April 1.

Mati is the only boutique outlet for Kabana Jewelry, a line manufactured in Downtown Albuquerque.
