ABQ to ban sale of e-cigarettes to minors

........................................................................................................................................................................................

Albuquerque city councilors unanimously agreed tonight to ban the sale of electronic cigarettes to minors.

The ordinance would also prohibit adults from buying the products for minors.

Mayor Richard Berry announced support for the ban in November, and Councilor Don Harris sponsored the legislation before councilors tonight.

“This is very important legislation,” Harris said.

He said he also has broader concerns about whether there are enough regulations covering what’s in the liquids used in e-cigarettes. The ordinance just covers their sale to minors, however.

I’ll have more in tomorrow’s paper.
