ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Clerks in Bernalillo and Corrales received formal declarations on Tuesday from candidates seeking elected office in their municipal elections on March 4.
In Bernalillo the mayor’s position and two council seats will be up for grabs. Mayor Jack Torres is running unopposed seeking a second term.
His counterpart in Corrales, Phil Gasteyer, is stepping down after two terms as mayor.
“I’m 75 years old and this is a full time job. I’m not sure I’m ready for another four years of it,” Gasteyer said on Wednesday.
Gasteyer is however running unopposed as a village councilor in district 3.
The other candidates who filed in Corrales are:
For mayor: Christina Allen and Scott Kominiak
Council District 1: Ennio Garcia-Miera (incumbent), Thomas Brown
Council District 3: Phil Gasteyer
Council District 4: John Alsobrook II (incumbent) David Dornburg
Councilors Hoyt Hart (district 2), Jim Fahey (district 5), and Pat Clauser (district 6) are half way through their terms.
Bernalillo’s council seats are not districted and candidates run at-large. Councilor Dale Prairie is seeking reelection. The other candidates are John Estrada and Ernestina Dominguez.
Councilor Santiago Montoya is stepping down after serving three terms. The terms of councilors Ronnie Sisneros and Marian Jaramillo expire in 2016.
