The Albuquerque Journal issued a scam alert Wednesday, warning advertisers not to provide confidential financial information over the phone to individuals posing as company employees.

1235110_1420117441533076_22995553_nThe company said it has received several reports this week that advertisers are being told their credit-card number was declined so they need to provide it again.

“Currently there are people calling our advertisers and misrepresenting themselves as employees of Albuquerque Publishing Co. or the Albuquerque Journal in order to gain confidential financial information,” according to the scam alert to be published Thursday in the Journal.

“Please be aware that an employee of the Albuquerque Publishing Co. or Albuquerque Journal will not call after an ad has been placed and paid for to request information that has already been obtained.”

Businesses that receive such a call are advised not to provide any confidential information, including credit-card, driver’s-license or Social Security numbers.

Advertisers with additional questions can contact the Journal’s credit department at 505-823-3221.
