Kendall’s big performance

........................................................................................................................................................................................

New Mexico’s Kendall Williams had one of the great performances in New Mexico basketball history Saturday, scoring 46 points – hitting 10 3-pointers – while leading the Lobos to a 91-82 win over Colorado State. Here are some reactions from far and near:

♦ “THAT WAS A SPECIAL night to watch. I told him that. I never had a 10 (3-pointer) game. I never got to 46. I think 42 was the most I ever scored and eight 3s was the most I ever made in a game. I told him that was a special night from a coaching standpoint to watch one of your players have a night like that, that’s a lot of fun. I’m very, very happy for him.”

♦ “THERE’S NOT too many one-ups you get on coach Alford, especially in scoring. To one-up him right now, I might be on top of the world for the rest of the weekend.”

♦ “1 TIME FOR Lil bro aka Baby Butta “Kendall Williams” 46pts tonight put him in the category of #LoboGreats”

Former Lobo Darington Hobson via Twitter (@ParkaySmooth)

♦ “WITH ALL DUE respect to Nate Wolters (the South Dakota State guard who had a Divison I high 53 point game this season) and with the knowledge that (Georgetown’s) Otto Porter went crazy in a win at Syracuse this afternoon, I think it’s fair to say that what Williams did on Saturday was the most impressive and dominating individual performance of the season. Because this is more than just a regular win for the Lobos.”

Rob Dauster, NBC Sports College Basketball Talk

♦ “KENDALL WILLIAMS 46 points on the road? This is the best performance in college basketball this season! Absolutely amazing !!!!what a win!”

Steve Lappas, CBS Sports Network analyst, via Twitter (@stlappas)

♦ “PUT KENDALL Williams on a cereal box. Dat boy good. #ComingToAmerica”

Myron Medcalf, writer for ESPN.com, via Twitter (@MedcalfByESPN)

♦ NEW MEXICO’S 91-82, come-from-behind victory over Colorado State was the most entertaining game of the afternoon – and it also featured the best performance not just of the day, but arguably of the entire season.

Jason King, ESPN

♦ “KENDALL WILLIAMS picked the perfect day to have the best game of his college career. Heck, maybe the best game of his life.”

Kyle Ringo on Yahoo! Sports

♦ “NEW MEXICO WON at Colorado State behind 46 points (10 3pt FGM) by Kendall Williams. He had 32 3pt FGM coming in. Great win for Lobos.”

ESPN analyst Jay Bilas via Twitter (@JayBilas)

♦ I WOULD SAY he was more determined, their team was far more determined than us, starting from myself on down. … We did not execute well enough to stop him.”

Larry Eustachy, Colorado State coach

♦ “HE GOT HOT and then was just feeling it the rest of the night.”
