CHICAGO – A trip to the Windy City blew New Mexico State off its perch atop the Western Athletic Conference men’s basketball standings.

Clarke Rosenberg scored 20 points and Quinton Pippen added 19 with eight rebounds as Chicago State defeated visiting New Mexico State 86-81 Thursday night.

Thus ended a seven-game win streak for the Aggies (14-6, 3-1), the league’s prohibitive favorite. But today they are looking up in the standings at Chicago State (8-9, 3-0 ).

“We played our worst game in I don’t know how long,” NMSU coach Marvin Menzies said on postgame radio. “It was bad. Chicago State did a really good job of making us play ugly. They sped us up.”

The Cougars shot 55 percent from the field and were 8-of-12 from beyond the arc. The Aggies out-rebounded the Cougars 36-26 and hit 10 3-pointers, but also had 19 turnovers.
