ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Valley High School wide receiver Aaron Molina and California junior college tight end Nick Lehman have made commitments to play for the University of New Mexico, according to online college recruiting sources.

Molina told The Red Menace – Scout.com’s UNM fan site – via text that he plans to sign with the Lobos on Feb. 5. The 6-foot-3, 155-pound receiver teamed with Valley quarterback Bo Coleman to lead the Vikings to an 11-1 record and into the 2013 Class 5A playoffs. Molina set a New Mexico high school record with 351 receiving yards in a victory over Manzano.

Lehman, 6-3 and 234 pounds, played for Long Beach City College. Brett Peabody, the player’s coach at Long Beach, told JCFootball.com via text that Lehman plans to sign with New Mexico.

The website reported that Lehman, who played only one year at Long Beach, likely will enroll at UNM this month. If so, he would be able to participate in spring practice and would be a sophomore in the fall.

Lehman caught six passes for 144 yards for Long Beach last fall. According the maxpreps.com, he caught 12 passes for 174 yards and three touchdowns in 2012 as a senior at St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, Calif.

He is described as a strong blocker. The tight end is a key blocker in UNM’s offensive scheme, whether positioned on the line of scrimmage or in the backfield as an H-back.

Commitments are non-binding until a signed letter of intent is received by the school.

New Mexico now has 10 known commitments toward its 2014 recruiting class of 25.

Three midyear junior-college transfers already have signed letters of intent as permitted by NCAA rules. They are Daniel Henry, a safety from Iowa Western College; Ryan Langford, a linebacker from Iowa Western; and Eden Mahina, an offensive lineman from Mt. San Antonio College in California.

Players known to have made commitments to UNM, in addition to Molina and Lehman, are:

• Chris Lee, a juco linebacker from Laney College in Oakland, Calif.;

• Juwan Jones, a safety from Hamilton High School in Chandler, Ariz..;

• Stoney Hawkins, a tight end/H-back from Centennial High School in Frisco, Texas;

• Steven Galvan, a linebacker from El Dorado High School in Placentia, Calif.

• Bijon Parker, a defensive back from Fairfax High School in Los Angeles.

Parker signed with UNM last February but was not on the roster last year. He plans to enter the program this spring as a “grayshirt” and will count toward the 2014 recruiting class.
