ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — It’s Mardi Gras in New Mexico.
The New Mexico Jazz Workshop will host the inaugural New Mexi-Gras from 6:30-10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28 at the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History, 2000 Mountain NW.
Vicki Dugger, assistant director at the NM Jazz Workshop, says the event is a fundraiser for the youth education program.
She says there aren’t many Mardi Gras-inspired events held in Albuquerque.
“There’s typically not a lot going on around this time,” she says. “It seemed like there was a gap in everybody’s fundraising calendar. Our board really liked the idea and we went for it. It’s been really fun planning it.”
The event will feature music from The Mil-Tones Brass Band, the Stu Mac Askie Duo, Raven Rutherford & Her S.P.P. Band. There also will be dancing, food, Tarot card readers, face painting, raffles and a King Cake.
“We’re bringing a little bit of New Orleans to New Mexico,” she says.
Tickets are $50 per person, or $45 per person for groups of 10 and can be purchased at eventbrite.com/e/new-mexi-gras-tickets-10195816963 or by calling at 255-9798.
