APS police chief investigated

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Albuquerque Public Schools police chief is on paid leave while the department investigates him, according to APS spokeswoman Monica Armenta.

According to Armenta, Chief Steve Tellez is on leave due to allegations of misconduct, which she called a “personnel issue.”

Armenta said the allegations do not involve any students or staff members.

Tellez has been acting APS chief at least twice according to Journal archives, although it’s unclear when he was appointed chief and Armenta said late Monday night she didn’t know.
