A woman who was pulled over on suspicion of stealing from Dillard’s fled from police because she didn’t want to go to jail and wanted to be home for her child’s birthday, according to the criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court.

Chrissie Garcia, 33, was pulled over near La Orilla and Coors Thursday and gave the officer incorrect identifying information before fleeing from police, according to the complaint.

Garcia crashed into a wall and ruined landscaping at a nearby home before fleeing on foot, and an officer caught her two blocks away according to the complaint.

Police noticed the car she was driving was stolen, and damage to the wall was more than $1,000 according to police. She fled while school buses were dropping off children, and she “endangered all the people living in the neighborhood,” according to the complaint.

She was charged with receiving and transferring a stolen motor vehicle, aggravated fleeing a police officer and criminal damage over $1,000 and was booked into the county jail.
