Jeff Deimling, sr., La Cueva – Deimling has proven to be one of the best clutch hitters in 5A since he joined the varsity. He’s moving from third base to shortstop this season.
Tanner West, soph., Volcano Vista – UNM baseball coach Ray Birmingham knows how to pluck the top talent from local high schools, and West, a hard-throwing lefty, is slated to be a future Lobo.
Kyle Piersol, sr., St. Pius – Piersol has had some injury issues, but the Sartans’ starting shortstop can be a real headache to opposing pitchers. He’s another future Lobo, and one of the keys to St. Pius’ chances of repeating at state champion in 4A.
Marcus Martinez, sr., Rio Rancho – The Rams moved him from behind the plate to shortstop this year, and to no one’s surprise, he’s already on the list of the best at that position.
Alex Howard, sr., La Cueva – Howard and Deimling make for a great pair defensively, but the Bears are ultra-excited to see how he pans out on the mound after a terrific summer and fall as a pitcher.
Eli Cappello, sr., Rio Rancho – One of two five-year varsity players for the Rams, and he is possibly the Rams’ most effective pitcher. He’ll throw a lot of big games this season.
Bo Coleman, sr., Valley – Possibly the best overall player in District 5-5A, he’s a shortstop, a top starting pitcher, and the Vikings’ leadoff batter.
