All-Mountain West individual award nominees unveiled

........................................................................................................................................................................................

The Mountain West on Thursday unveiled the nominees for postseason individual awards such as all-conference team, Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, Sixth Man of the Year and Freshman of the Year.

To be on this list, a player’s school had to nominate them, which in and of itself seems unfortunate. Coaches don’t like having their players know who they did and did not nominate from their own teams, and I don’t blame them. It puts them in a bad spot.

As such, by my publicly posting this list of nominees I’m sure I’ll upset many coaches around the league, but I bet they all want to see the list, too. Fans of the Mountain West should see who is nominated for the awards.

The awards are supposed to be based solely on how players performed DURING LEAGUE GAMES. Non-conference statistics, career statistics and pro prospects are supposed to be ignored, but that doesn’t always happen (see UNLV’s Anthony Bennett making the First Team All-MWC team in 2013 for example).

So, here are the players nominates for All-Mountain West individual honors (ballots are due Sunday and the awards will be announced Monday):
