RIO RANCHO — No. 12 Ruidoso is the Cinderella story of the Class 3A boys tourney, having to make a detour in Taos, before travelling to the Santa Ana Star Center for Wednesday’s quarterfinal round. The Warriors upset the No. 5 Tigers, 66-64, after dropping five of their final seven games. … No. 4 West Las Vegas enters the tourney having lost just one contest in District 2-3A play, before falling to Taos in the district tourney title game. But prior to that, the Dons — led by freshman phenom D.J. Bustos — had won 10 of their final 11 regular-season matchups. … WLV will face No. 1 Hope Christian in the semifinals. Game time Friday at 9:45 a.m.

1ST HALF: RIUDOSO 36, WEST LAS VEGAS 35
- WLV led by as many as eight points in the opening period, before Ruidoso controlled second-quarter action to take a one-point into the break.

- Cody Najar leads the Dons in scoring, going 5-for-9 from the floor for 17 points. Adam Ramos is the high scorer for the Warriors with 17 points.

3RD QUARTER: WLV 59, RUIDOSO 47
- WLV regains the lead, going up 46-41 at the 4:13 mark
- Cody Najar puts WLV up 50-43 (2:13)
- WLV up 54-45 with 50.2 left in the period
- A D.J. Bustos 3-point play at the end of the period gives Dons their largest lead of the game

4TH QUARTER
- Dons open final period on a 6-2 run to take a commanding 65-49 lead (3:35).
- WLV’s largest lead is 19 — 71-52 (2:05)
- The Dons were led in scoring by Cody Najar with 26 points. D.J. Bustos followed with 16 points and Martin Castellano had 15.
- Adam Ramos paced Ruidoso with 23 points.
