Council chooses new deputy mayor, changes meeting time

........................................................................................................................................................................................

Rio Rancho’s new lineup of  city councilors has picked Councilor Lonnie Clayton as deputy mayor.

Clayton replaces Councilor Mark Scott who has been deputy mayor since being elected in 2012.

Clayton will be deputy mayor until the April 15 runoff elections determine who will be the city’s next mayor and councilor for District 5. After that, the council will vote again on who will be the deputy mayor.

Wednesday was the first council meeting for newly elected District 2 councilor Dawnn Robinson and District 3 Councilor Cheryl Everett.

Councilors also voted 5-1 to change the start time of council meetings from 6:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Councilors had decided to switch to the later time in 2012 to accommodate some members’ work schedule.
