Camilla M. Bustamante has withdrawn her candidacy for Santa Fe County commissioner in District 3.
Bustamante, an emergency manager with the state Department of Health, told the Journal on Friday that requirements spelled out under the Hatch Act prevent her from running for the seat while she serves in her current job. She said because her position is 100 percent funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, she is prohibited from running in a partisan election.
Bustamante, a Democrat, had declared her candidacy for the District 3 seat in the June 3 primary election on Tuesday. She was to face incumbent Robert A. Anaya, who will retain his seat as no one else filed as a candidate in that district.
District 3 covers the southern part and some western sections of Santa Fe County.
