ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Two wrestlers from the Rio West area were chosen on New Mexico’s “Dream Team” for the 2013-14 season.
Cleveland freshman Noah Mirabal was the top wrestler at 106 pounds, and Volcano Vista’s Mike Budick, who was undefeated and had pins in every match, was the selection at 220.
There were no Rio Rancho Rams on the Dream Team, despite the Rams being Class 5A state champion this season.
In fact, most of the individual choices came from outside the metro area. The other exceptions were Atrisco Heritage heavyweight James Romero, Manzano’s Christopher Collins at 195 and Rio Grande’s Logan Wolfel at 170.
The wrestler of the year was St. Michael’s Koery Windham (160), who is a five-time state champion. Piedra Vista’s Levi Stout was named coach of the year.
