ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Rio Rancho High boys track and field team won six individual events and three relays at the Las Cruces Invitational last weekend.
The Rams scored 142 points to easily win the meet. The Rio Rancho girls placed second behind Oñate, 118-110.
Leading the way for the Rio Rancho boys were Ben Maurer, who won the 100-meter dash in 10.92 seconds; Fernando Lucero, who won the 800 (2:02.57); Abran Ramos, who won the 3,200 (10:13.3); and three field performers: Colby Stinson (shot put/52-9), Steve Bailey (javelin/155-1) and Matt Jackson (long jump/21-6).
The Rams’ 4×100 relay team (K.J. Jiggetts, Jackson, Josh Foley and Londyn Craft/44.35), 4×400 (John Finnegan, Josh Pyeatt, Lucero and Tristen Foley/3:30.7) and medley (Maurer, Tristen Foley, Finnegan and Lucero/3:36.85) also raced to victory.
- The Rio Rancho girls had individual wins from Molly Klein (800/2:22.18), Nakala Watson (100/12.76) and Merica Valdez (pole vault/10-6).
Rio Rancho also had wins in the medley relay (Brittany Benedict, Watson, Sasha Hickox and Klein/4:13.14), 4×100 relay (Benedict, Watson, Hickox, Mackenzie Lester/51.36) and 4×400 relay (Hickox, Alliana Atencio, Klein, Elena Gurule/4:12.02).
