The two finalists in the boys Class 5A basketball tournament dominated all-state voting.

Starting backcourts from Valley and Atrisco Heritage comprised 80 percent of the 5A first team, voted on the coaches, which was released on Wednesday.

Joe Anaya and Adonis Saltes from Valley, along with Corbin Waquie and Joe Brooks from the Jaguars, were named to the first team.

The fifth member was Cleveland junior guard Ryan Jones, the only underclassmen among the five.

Only one player from outside the metro area, Las Cruces guard Malik Woods, was represented. Woods was on the second team with Eldorado post Zach Gentry, Rio Rancho guard Brady Patterson, Sandia guard Adam Cumber and Highland guard Bryan Medina.

Saltes also was named New Mexico’s Gatorade player of the year last week.

In 4A, Los Lunas’ standout tandem of Chris Sanchez and Jacob Holland were voted to the first team, as was Albuquerque Academy post Chris Martin.

St. Pius’ Ray Reyes was named to the second team.

Two members of Hope Christian’s state championship team were on 3A’s first five: forward Austen Drake and guard Brandon Zabala. Another Huskie, Ben Spangler, was on the second team.

Bosque School’s Gabe Chavez made 2A’s second team.

Girls

Class 5A’s first team included three Albuquerqueans — Volcano Vista guard Hannah Fenske from the state champion Hawks, plus La Cueva guard Alexa Romano and Cibola guard Kim Chapman.

Mayfield’s Daeshi McCants and Clovis’ Danni Williams rounded out the first team. Romano and Williams are both juniors; the other three are seniors.

Cibola point guard Dominique Carpenter and Hawks’ guard Deezha Battle were voted to the second team.

Los Lunas post/forward Teige Zeller, St. Pius guard Natalie Zamora and Belen guard/forward Mariah Forde all were named to the 4A all-state first team for the second straight season.

Zeller was also a first-teamer in 2012 with Grants.

Valencia’s Karina Dow was a second-team selection.

Alivia Lewis of Hope Christian was on the 3A all-state second team, as was Sandia Prep’s Kalei Yepa.
