Author Sherman Alexie will give a lecture at Popejoy Hall at 3 today.

He’s been named one of the top writers for the 21st century – and he’s coming to Albuquerque.

Sherman Alexie will give a talk at 3 today at Popejoy Hall in the University of New Mexico Center for the Arts.

He has written many books that tell the tales of contemporary American Indian life laced with razor-sharp humor, unsettling candor and biting wit.

His recent books include, “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian,” “Flight,” “Face” and most recently, “Blasphemy.”

Alexie wrote and produced the film “Smoke Signals” based on his book “The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven.”

He has won numerous awards for his writing, including the 2007 National Book Award for Young People’s Literature, the 2008 Boston Globe Horn Book Award, the 2009 International Book on Books for Young People Sweden – Peter Pan Prize.
