CATCHES OF THE WEEK

On April 6, Gary Flores from Albuquerque caught a 26-pound, 8-ounce and 37 1/4-inch laker, trolling an imitation rig at Heron Lake. On the same day, his wife, Maria, caught a 15-pound, 4-ounce, 31 3/4-inch trout. They were guided by Don Wolfley.

AROUND THE STATE

HERON LAKE: Folks fishing from shore at Ridge Rock have not had much success, but a few small lake trout (14 to 16 inches) have been caught on PowerBait and salmon eggs. Fishing from boats for lake trout as gotten off to a pretty good start. Some big lakers up to 26 1/2 pounds are being caught trolling and jigging. Trolling is best with imitation rainbow trout lures and jigging is best using various colored spoons and bucktail jigs. The fish are spread out between 25 to 50 feet. Don Wolfley, Heron Lake Guide Services

SHADY LAKES: We restocked with 2,000 pounds of trout on Wednesday (750 pounds for the Big Trout Pond) to keep the trout activity lively. The Easy Catch Trout Pond is running a really nice 12-inch average. The Big Trout run 16-18 inches with up to 10 20-plus-inch fish stocked. Successful baits for the Big Trout are flies, firefox lures and PowerBait fishing off the bottom. The Easy Catch Trout Pond favors nightcrawlers, PowerBait, and salmon eggs. Jan Phillips, director

ISLETA LAKES: Fishing is very good in both SUNRISE and TURTLES lakes. Trout will be stocked this week in time for the weekend. This will be the last stocking of trout for the season. Best baits reported for trout are salmon eggs, marshmallows, red, white and salmon egg PowerBait. J. Keryte, Isleta Lakes & RV Park
