Covering UNM Lobos and Mountain West Conference hoops and more2014-2015 Schedule/Results | Roster

Don’t expect much love for Mountain West hoops next season

........................................................................................................................................................................................

Even before CBS was rolling on the annual post-National Championship montage tradition of “One Shining Moment” while the Connecticut Huskies cut down the nets in Dallas on Monday night, plenty of national outlets had already posted their early 2014-15 Top 25 rankings for college hoops.

One consistent theme as it relates to the Mountain West Conference seems to be not much is expected of the league in its 16th season in existence.

That isn’t all that surprising. The top teams in the league have top players departing, which leaves plenty of question marks for the conference.

San Diego State is the only league team that appeared on multiple way-too-early Top 25 lists I’ve seen so far, although UNLV did check in on one list and both teams are mentioned as teams close to being ranked on other lists.

The New Mexico Lobos, which finished the 203-14 season ranked No. 17 in the final Associated Press Top 25 and unranked in the final USA Today Coaches Top 25 poll, are nowhere to be found on any of the early rankings for next season I’ve seen so far.

Here are links to some 2014-15 Top 25 ranking lists and where they have Mountain West teams ranked:

Mountain West: No. 20 San Diego State
