NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Sam Haggerty went 3-for-6 and drove in a career-best five runs as the University of New Mexico baseball team rallied to defeat Stephen F. Austin 9-6 on Wednesday night.

Haggerty smacked a solo home run in the first and delivered a go-ahead two-run single in the seventh as the Lobos (23-11-1) erased a 6-3 deficit to win the opener of a two-game series.

Chase Harris went 4-for-5 with a two-run homer for UNM.

The Lumberjacks (15-16) took advantage of a stiff wind blowing out, hitting four home runs.

Zach Marberry hit two of them, including a two-run shot in the fifth that gave SFA a 6-3 lead.

But UNM relievers Taylor Duree (2-0), Jake Cole and Victor Sanchez shut the Lumberjacks out the rest of the way.

Lobo pitchers finished with seven strikeouts and no walks.

Jared Holley had two hits for New Mexico, which outhit SFA 13-8.

The teams conclude the series today at 9 a.m. The starting time was changed to accommodate UNM’s travel.
