UPDATED: Year-Old Boy Sole Survivor of I-10 Triple Fatal

........................................................................................................................................................................................

One-year-old Yajir Morga of El Paso was the sole survivor of an early Wednesday morning crash on Interstate 10 just west of Las Cruces that killed three people, the Las Cruces Sun-News reported.

Killed were the boy’s mother, 22-year-old Mariali Venegas of El Paso and her daughter, Ylairan Morga, 4, who were in a passenger truck, and Elizabeth Quintana of El Paso, the driver of a FedEx big-rig that crashed into the rear of the 2000 extended-cab GMC pickup at mile marker 117 around 1:30 a.m., the Sun-News said.

All three victims died at the scene, and westbound I-10 was shut down for several hours, the paper reported.

The child who survived was in a car seat during the crash, New Mexico State Police Sgt. Alex Horcasitas told the Sun-News. Border Patrol agents who were first on the scene began treating the child, who was then flown to University Medical Center in El Paso, Horcasitas said.

The boy was in stable condition, according to State Police.

Venegas was believed to have been en route to Deming, taking the children to visit their father, and the FedEx truck was headed to Bowie, Ariz., the Sun-News said.
