A Hobby Lobby representative confirmed to the Journal Monday that the arts and crafts retail giant plans to leave its current home at Wyoming and Montgomery for a space in the Sierra Vista Shopping Center at Eubank and Montgomery.
Hobby Lobby, which has leased 60,000 square feet, will fill part of the void left when KMart closed its Sierra Vista location last year.
Vince Parker of Hobby Lobby said in an email to the Journal that the move was “to better serve our customers,” and said the new store should be open by October.
Sierra Vista has rebounded quickly since losing the 84,000-square-foot KMart last September. Under Columbus Pacific Properties — which bought the center at the end of 2013 — Sierra Vista also has attracted Stein Mart, which is slated to open a 32,000-square-foot store later this year.
CBRE broker Lia Armstrong, who is marketing the property with Jim Dountas and Jeremy Nelson, said retailers are attracted to by the area’s demographics and the center’s high-profile location.
“It’s on a high-traffic intersection, and box space at great corners is still very popular,” said Armstrong.
Sierra Vista could still accommodate two junior anchors, Armstrong said.
