........................................................................................................................................................................................

Albuquerque fire crews responded to an apartment fire at 1409 Chelwood Park Blvd NE Thursday morning.

While enroute, crews reported seeing heavy smoke from miles away about 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
All occupants from the eight unit apartment building were able to get out safely on their own or were evacuated by fire crews, according to Albuquerque Fire Department spokeswoman Melissa Romero.
Four apartments have been heavily damaged by fire.
AFD has 15 units on scene with 2 handlines and 1 ariel ladder extinguishing the fire, Romero said in an e-mail.
There were no injuries and the cause is under investigation.
Red Cross has established a temporary shelter for the evacuated residents at St. Marys Church on Chelwood Park Boulevard. They also are assisting four families with housing, according to Romero.
