Trio finds inspiration appears anywhere, everywhere

........................................................................................................................................................................................

It’s mid-June.

James Justin Burke is staring out his window at the stellar blue sky in Breckenridge, Colo. As the sun beats down on the snow-packed mountain – yes, snow-packed – Burke is enjoying a rare day off.

“I think we’re going to go fishing today,” he says. “Just me and my dog. We’re going to get out and have a fun day.”

Burke is the lead singer of Americana trio James Justin Burke and Company.

The trio, who play guitar, banjo and upright bass, have just released their sophomore disc, “Dark Country,” released in early June.

“We were able to get the album out before we went on tour,” he says. “It’s great because people will have time to digest the songs before we come out and play them.”

Burke says the album took about six months to complete. He says the trio wanted to take their time with the album in order to capture a full sound.

“We really didn’t need a new album because the last one came out a year and a half ago,” he explains. “But between touring, we had time to write more and develop the music to where we were happy with it.”

For Burke, he truly believes that inspiration is everywhere. He often stops to write down an idea no matter where he is.

“If I don’t capture what I’m feeling, the moment will be lost forever,” he says. “It’s important for me to realize that. Sometimes people will look at me weird because I’ll stand there singing a melody into my voice mail.”

Burke says “Dark Country” represents his journey through life. He says the songs are a reminder to make the right decision in your life.

“The topics have the ability to resonate with a lot of people,” he says. “It’s about moving forward and staying focused.”
