Voting begins today in state’s Breakfast Burrito Byway contest

........................................................................................................................................................................................

doshermanosburritoCompetition for a spot on the state’s Breakfast Burrito Byway is heating up.

A total of 402 restaurants from around the state have been nominated for a spot on the final map, and the New Mexico Tourism Department is now asking for the public’s help to whittle the list to 50.

Breakfast burrito fans can cast a vote for their favorite(s) starting at 9 a.m. today. The voting runs through 11:45 p.m. Sunday, May 18.

The list of nominees includes some of the area’s most recognizable burrito makers — Blake’s, Frontier, Hurricane’s — as well as some lower-profile choices, like gas stations, golf clubs and even the VA Canteen in Albuquerque. The options are also geographically diverse, with bitty communities like Velarde, Hurley and Reserve all with at least one nominee.

Voting is available only online at newmexico.org/burrito. Voters can select up to 10 different restaurants per day.

The final New Mexico True Breakfast Burrito Byway will be unveiled on June 16.
