SANTA FE, N.M. — Earth Day got a little extra rhythm at Santa Fe Community College with this group practicing their beats in front of the main campus building.
Their morning practice added to the festivities, marked by a series of information tables in the Main Hall. Recycling, veganism, solar technology, soil builders, a campus hemp club, and much more were featured at the tables.
The campus also will host a Solar Fiesta from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, April 26, and noon-5 p.m. on Sunday, April 27. Saturday’s events feature episodes of Renewable New Mexico will be screened throughout the day, along with workshops on global warming, solar panel installation, financing for renewable energy, historical droughts in New Mexico, energy storage, electric vehicles and more. Four of the five Democratic gubernatorial candidates are expected to attend at various times, and State Land Commissioner Ray Powell will speak at 10:15 a.m.
On Sunday, events at the Trades and Advanced Technology Center will include a biofuels demonstration, tours of the culinary garden and students preparing dishes from the crops, tours and workshops on aquaponics, and more.
