ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A Twitter feed under the name of former University of New Mexico student Ryan Ruff indicated that he had a blue BMW cleaned two days after it is alleged that he, Lobo football player Crusoe Gongbay and a third man raped a female UNM student in the back seat of a vehicle of that color and make.
Ruff, 21, was released on $100,000 bond from the Metropolitan Detention Center Wednesday night. Gongbay, 20, was released on $50,000 bond Tuesday morning.
“My baby got cleaned today,” read the tweet on April 15, above a photo of a blue BMW.
Early the morning of April 13, according to a criminal complaint, Gongbay and an unidentified man raped a UNM female student in the back seat of a blue BMW while Ruff drove.
Later, police said, Ruff dropped off the other two men and drove the woman to campus. There, according to the complaint, he raped the woman at gunpoint in the back seat before releasing her.
It is not clear who owns the car. According to the Twitter account, Ruff began working as a salesman at an Albuquerque car dealership March 13.
“My baby for the day. lol Ford tough,” he tweeted on March 14, above a photo of a Ford pickup.
Ruff, like Gongbay, is from Maryland. According to maxpreps.com, he played wide receiver at Gwynn Park High School in Brandywine, Md.
Gongbay has been suspended indefinitely from the UNM football team. He had been expected to start at running back this fall as a senior.
The unidentified third suspect is described as being dark-complected, weighing 180 to 200 pounds, with hair short on the sides and longer on top.
The female student, according to her attorney, has withdrawn from school and gone home. She is with family members and is undergoing therapy, he said in a statement.
