ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Cleveland “Pancake” Thomas, the University of New Mexico sophomore guard who last week requested a release from his scholarship from the Lobos basketball team, announced Wednesday he is transferring to the University of Hartford.
After ESPN.com’s Jeff Goodman initially broke the news Wednesday morning, Thomas confirmed the decision on Twitter, writing: “Yes, I committed to Hartford. Yes I had bigger offers. But what’s about to happen Y’all won’t understand now but y’all will soon. #Gfb”

Hartford went 17-16 this season and 10-6 in the American East Conference. The 6-foot-3 Thomas will have to sit out a season before having two years left to play for the Hawks.
