Synthetic-drug bust nets 6 suspects in NM

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Six people were arrested Wednesday in connection with synthetic drug trafficking as part of a nationwide project carried out by federal and local law enforcement agencies.

In Albuquerque, Amjad Al-Washah, 27; Sabah Al-Washah, 47; Iman Al-Washah, 23; Sajey Beirat, 19; and Ramzi Kahalah, 53, were arrested based on federal criminal complaints, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico.

Fidel Abdeljawad, 46, was arrested on state trafficking charges.

The suspects were all charged with crimes related to illegal synthetic drugs. The suspects were affiliated with three Albuquerque smoke shops: Carlos’ Smoke Shop on Old Coors SW, C Jay’s Smoke Shop on Osuna NE and Sean’s Smoke Shop on Central, according to the news release.

In addition to the arrests, law enforcement seized more than $275,000 cash, synthetic drugs and 13 vehicles worth more than $450,000, the news release said.
